SAASST Planetarium Upgrade

The planetarium of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) is undergoing a major upgrade that will see most of its display systems replaced with state-of-the-art digital projectors. The upgrade started on September 01, 2022 and is expected to end in its first phase on March 31, 2023.

Several international and local vendors did a bit for the upgrade. After several discussions with these vendors, Visual Attractions LLC was chosen to do the upgrade.

RGB Pure LED technology was chosen to replace the planetarium projectors as being the most suitable tech for the Opto-Mechanical planetarium, where the MegaStar projector in the middle of the planetarium is sensitive to the other projection technologies. The sensitivity of the RGB Pure LED projection technology is (1: 2,500,000).

The whole upgrade will include the replacement of the:

  • Current projectors with 8 LED projectors with RGB Pure LED technology
  • Uniview platform with a better one
  • all the servers
  • audio system
